Sonoma Clean Power Heat Pump Water Heater Rebates
Standard rebate is $2,500, available for installations June 1, 2026 through March 1, 2027; after March 1, 2027 heat pump water heater rebates will only be available to customers enrolled in CARE or FERA. CARE/FERA customers instead receive 50% of project costs remaining after all other rebates are applied, up to $10,000. Equipment must reach UEF 3.43 or higher (120V and SANCO2 exceptions apply). Rebate cannot exceed project cost. One rebate per equipment type per account. Applications within 90 days of project completion. Customers may allocate $25 of the rebate to a Community Partner.
Sonoma Clean Power (SCP) offers rebates for residential and commercial customers in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties to switch to energy-efficient heat pump water heaters. Homeowner Tasks
- Provide your most recent PG&E bill
Upload a copy of a PG&E bill from within the last 60 days. It must show Sonoma Clean Power electric generation charges and match the installation address.
- Confirm your property eligibility
Ensure your project is for an existing building or a fire rebuild, as standard new construction is ineligible.
- Provide proof of CARE or FERA enrollment (if applicable)
If you are enrolled in these discount programs, you must indicate your enrollment and provide the remaining project costs to claim the enhanced rebate.
Contractor Tasks
- Install qualifying equipment
Install a Wi-Fi capable electric heat pump water heater with a UEF of 3.43 or higher. The system must not include any gas heating elements or dual-fuel configurations.
- Obtain a finalized building permit
A finalized building permit must be secured for the installation to qualify for the rebate.
- Provide a paid invoice
Secure a copy of the final paid invoice for the completed installation.
- Take a photo of the equipment nameplate
Capture a clear photo of the newly installed heat pump water heater's nameplate.
- Submit the application
Submit the online application along with the paid invoice, finalized permit, and nameplate photo within 90 days of the finalized permit date.
