Homeowner Tasks
- Confirm your active utility status
Ensure you are an active residential customer of Modesto Irrigation District (MID) and the installation is for an existing home.
- Hire a qualified contractor
Use a licensed C-20 contractor for any central heating, cooling, or ductless mini-split system installations.
- Provide a paid invoice or receipt
Supply a dated purchase receipt, contract, or invoice showing the price per product, marked 'Paid in Full' or reflecting a zero balance.
- Sign the rebate application
Provide a completed and signed 2026 Home Rebate Application.
- Provide a W-9 form if you are a landlord
If you are a landlord applying for the rebate, you must submit a completed IRS W-9 form to receive a check instead of a bill credit.
Contractor Tasks
- Obtain and provide a building permit
Provide a copy of the city/county building permit for all central AC, heat pump, and mini-split installations.
- Include specific equipment details on the invoice
Ensure the final invoice lists the manufacturer/brand and complete model numbers for all installed equipment.
- Install qualifying central cooling or heating equipment
Ensure central ACs meet Tier 1 (SEER2 ≥ 15.2) or Tier 2 (SEER2 ≥ 16.0) minimums. Heat pumps must meet Tier 1 (SEER2 ≥ 15.2, HSPF2 ≥ 7.2) or Tier 2 (SEER2 ≥ 16.0, HSPF2 ≥ 8.0) requirements.
- Install qualifying heat pump water heaters properly
Water heaters must be >40 gallons, UEF ≥ 2.2, replace an electric tank storage unit, and be installed outside of an air-conditioned living space.
- Provide NFRC stickers for window replacements
If installing replacement windows, provide a copy of the NFRC sticker for each window type to verify U-factor and SHGC ratings.

How to Submit
To apply, complete the 2026 Home Rebate Application form and submit it along with a copy of the dated purchase receipt, contract, or invoice marked paid in full for all products. Applications must be submitted within 90 days of purchase.
