Guidance

The MCE Home Energy Savings Program provides income-qualifying single-family households in the Marin Clean Energy territory with up to $7,000 in direct energy-efficiency upgrades. Eligible customers receive a free home energy assessment to determine necessary improvements, which are then installed at no cost.

Homeowner Tasks

  • Confirm property eligibility

Verify that your single-family home is located within the Marin Clean Energy (MCE) service territory.

  • Verify income qualification

Confirm that your household meets the program's gross annual income limits before applying.

  • Complete a home energy assessment

Apply for and undergo the mandatory free pre-install home energy assessment before any installation work begins.

Contractor Tasks

  • Verify assessment completion

Confirm the homeowner has completed the mandatory pre-install home energy assessment before starting any work.

  • Review approved upgrades

Ensure that the planned energy-efficiency upgrades strictly align with the approvals generated from the homeowner's energy assessment.

  • Perform direct installations

Install the approved energy-efficiency upgrades (such as attic insulation and duct sealing) directly at no cost to the homeowner.

Income Qualification Required: Homeowners must meet strict gross annual household income limits to participate (for example, $132,000 for a family of 4).
Pre-Install Requirement: Do not begin any installation work until the mandatory home energy assessment is completely finished and upgrades are approved.
This incentive is provided as up to $7,000 in direct value for energy-efficiency upgrades installed at no cost to the customer, rather than a traditional cash rebate.
