Standard replacement discounts: Geothermal ($7,100), Cold Climate HP ($1,700), HPWH ($1,500), ASHP (up to $1,500), Central AC (up to $1,400), Ductless (up to $800), Smart Thermostat ($100). Switch-to-Electric (fuel switching) incentives: Cold Climate HP (up to $4,000), ASHP (up to $3,500), Ductless ($3,000), HPWH (up to $2,500). Electrical Make-Ready updates: up to $3,000. Home Performance path: up to 75% of costs or $10,000 max. Switch-to-Electric requires a $100 home energy audit. Standard path is an instant discount from contractor. Home Performance path is a rebate check to the homeowner.
Save on energy costs with high-efficiency, ENERGY STAR certified HVAC equipment for your home. You can receive up to $7,100 on Geothermal Heat Pumps, $1,700 on Cold Climate Heat Pumps, and $1,500 on Heat Pump Water Heaters.
Guidance
The Potomac Edison Company offers rebates between $1,500 and $7,100 for Maryland residential customers who install high-efficiency HVAC equipment. To qualify, equipment must be ENERGY STAR certified and installed by a participating contractor.
Homeowner Tasks
- Verify utility eligibility
Confirm that your property is located in Maryland and you are a residential customer of Potomac Edison.
- Hire a participating contractor
Select a participating contractor from the Potomac Edison network. DIY installations or using a non-participating contractor will result in disqualification.
- Complete a pre-install energy audit
If you are applying through the Switch-to-Electric or Home Performance rebate paths, you must complete an energy audit prior to installation. The audit fee is $100.
Contractor Tasks
- Ensure equipment meets efficiency standards
Verify that the installed Heat Pump Water Heater, Cold Climate Heat Pump, or Geothermal Heat Pump is ENERGY STAR certified.
- Provide a detailed invoice
Generate an invoice that clearly displays the equipment make, model numbers, and the installation date.
- Submit specific path forms
Complete and submit all required documentation for Home Performance and Switch-to-Electric rebate applications, if applicable.
- Submit the rebate application
Complete and submit the application on behalf of the homeowner after the energy efficiency improvements are installed.
