Guidance

The Epic Homes program from Fort Collins Utilities provides loans between $1,000 and $50,000 for energy efficiency upgrades, including heat pumps. Applicants must be property owners and utility customers who complete a pre-project home efficiency assessment.

Homeowner Tasks

  • Confirm Fort Collins Utilities service

    Verify that your property receives utility service from Fort Collins Utilities and that you are the property owner.

  • Complete a home efficiency assessment

    You must complete an Epic Homes efficiency assessment before starting any upgrades or applying for the loan.

  • Apply for the loan

    Submit your loan application after completing the assessment and selecting eligible upgrades.

Contractor Tasks

  • Verify eligible upgrades

    Confirm that the planned installations (e.g., heat pumps, insulation, air sealing) are eligible under the Epic Homes program guidelines.

  • Coordinate with assessment findings

    Ensure the equipment being installed aligns with the recommendations from the homeowner's completed efficiency assessment.

Work must not begin before the homeowner has completed their home efficiency assessment.
Customers at or below 80% of the Larimer County Area Median Income (AMI) may qualify for free assessments and retrofits through the CARE program.
Review the eligible upgrades list carefully, as the loan covers specific energy efficiency measures like heat pumps, insulation, and air sealing.
