Insulation and Air Sealing Rebates

Rebate amount
$15 - $3,125

Xcel Energy 2026 Rebate Summary for Colorado residential, effective 2026-10-01. Standard rebate (customers who heat with electricity or natural gas from Xcel Energy): air sealing 30% of project cost up to $400 (20% reduction in CFM50); wall insulation 30% up to $350 (empty wall cavity before, R-13 or greater after); attic insulation 30% up to $500 (below R-24 before, R-60 or greater after). Bonus for customers who heat with Xcel natural gas: 1.5 times the standard rebate on top of it (total = standard + bonus, so up to $1,000 air sealing, $875 wall, $1,250 attic; $3,125 for all three); the invoice must be dated in 2026 and the cap applies to the standard rebate. Customers with Xcel electric service and central AC whose heating fuel is not from Xcel: $15 air sealing, $25 wall, $60 attic. Base rebate plus bonus cannot exceed the invoiced cost. $600 bonus when qualifying insulation and air sealing are installed before an Xcel rebate-qualifying space-heating heat pump, invoices within two years of each other. Eligible for the 25% Whole Home Efficiency bonus; attic insulation rebates are structured differently (higher) through Whole Home Efficiency. Must be done by a current Xcel participating insulation and air sealing contractor (BPI-certified technicians). Not eligible: new construction or additions, garages, sheds, workshops, below-ground basements, insulated doors, mobile homes, and buildings with more than four units. Rentals are eligible. Xcel's web page still lists older requirements (attic below R-15 to R-49, NACH50) and a $500 bonus-section cap; the dated summary is newer.

Xcel Energy Colorado pays 30% of the cost of air sealing (up to $400), wall insulation (up to $350) and attic insulation (up to $500), done by a participating contractor. Customers who heat with Xcel natural gas get a bonus of 1.5 times the standard rebate on 2026 invoices.

Homeowner Tasks

  • Confirm your Xcel service

The full rebate is for homes heated by Xcel natural gas or Xcel electricity; Xcel electric customers with central AC and other heating fuel get the lower tier.

  • Hire a participating contractor

Choose a contractor from Xcel's participating insulation and air sealing list.

  • Sign the rebate application

Renters can assign the rebate to the owner in the Alternate Rebate Recipient section.

Contractor Tasks

  • Test and document the work

Air sealing must cut CFM50 leakage by at least 20%; record pre- and post-job R-values (walls empty to R-13+, attic below R-24 to R-60+).

  • Submit the application

Submit through Xcel's digital application by July 31 of the year after the work.

All insulation and air sealing work must be done by a current Xcel Energy participating insulation and air sealing contractor.
New construction, additions, garages, sheds, below-ground basements, mobile homes and buildings with more than four units are not eligible.
The gas-heat bonus needs an invoice dated in 2026. Customers who heat with a fuel not from Xcel but have Xcel electric and central AC get $15 to $60 per measure.
Insulating and air sealing before a qualifying heat pump (invoices within two years) adds a $600 bonus.
