PG&E Residential EV Charging Rebate Plus

Rebate amount
Up to $2,000

Stored max is the charger-only figure ($2,000); the $5,000 cap applies only when the job also upgrades the panel from under 200 A to exactly 200 A with a Level 2 charger and the contractor shows the upgrade is necessary for Level 2 charging, so do not present $5,000 on a charger-only job. The rebate is the lesser of the installation's cost and the cap and covers materials, labor, permit and PG&E Your Projects application fees. It is paid directly to the Trade Ally Network contractor (CSLB C-10 or B license) after the claim is approved, so it lowers the customer's price. The amount posted when the application is approved applies. One PG&E Residential EV Charging rebate per household: Rebate Plus or Standard, not both.

Income-qualified PG&E residential electric customers who own or lease an EV can get up to $2,000 toward a Level 2 charger installed by a PG&E Trade Ally Network contractor, or up to $5,000 when the job also upgrades the panel from under 200 A to 200 A. Pre-approval comes first, and PG&E pays the contractor.

Qualification

  • Income-qualified

Household income at or below 80% of Area Median Income for the county and household size (PG&E follows the HCD State Income Limits, updated each year), OR proof dated within the last 12 months of enrollment in a program on PG&E's list (CalFresh/SNAP, CalWORKs or tribal TANF, income-qualified Medi-Cal with its Notice of Action letter, Medi-Cal for Families, SSI, WIC, LIHEAP, Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance, tribal Head Start, Drive Clean in the San Joaquin), OR a PG&E Pre-Owned EV Rebate Plus approval within the last 12 months. Income is shown with PG&E's Household Income Summary Form plus an IRS Form 4506-C for every adult on the tax return. An applicant claimed as a dependent on someone else's federal return for the purchase year is not eligible whatever their income.

  • Pre-approval required
  • Permit required
  • Contractor enrollment required

The installing contractor must be in PG&E's Trade Ally Network to do Rebate Plus work and receive the rebate. To join: hold an active CSLB C-10 or General B license, a California business license and general liability insurance; submit the Trade Ally Network application on PG&E's Trade Ally Network page (pge.com, Electric vehicles, Trade Ally Network); complete the annual online Trade Ally Network training and pass its test with 100%. PG&E confirms by email within 5 business days and lists the company in the network. The optional Your Projects application training (6 minutes, PG&E Energy Centers) covers the service application.

Not required: energy star certified equipment · ahri matched pair · has income-qualified portion · fuel switching required

Stackability: One PG&E Residential EV Charging rebate per household (per residential PG&E electric Service Agreement ID): Rebate Plus and the Standard option (PG&E Residential EV Charging Rebate (Standard)) are alternatives, and an approved Standard applicant cannot later apply for Rebate Plus. Households that received the earlier Residential Charging Solutions or Empower EV rebate are not eligible. The $5,000 tier already includes the panel upgrade, so do not add a second PG&E panel amount. PG&E lets customers layer other programs on top of Rebate Plus, but not beyond the installation's total cost. The federal 30C charger credit ended for property placed in service after 2026-06-30.

How to Submit

Three PG&E submissions, in this order. 1) Pre-approval, before buying equipment or starting work: the customer (a Trade Ally Network contractor may help) applies online with the PG&E account number and Service Agreement ID, the vehicle's DMV registration and proof of income; the pre-approval email carries the application number (REV-...) and the link for choosing a Trade Ally contractor. 2) PG&E Your Projects service application, after pre-approval and before installation: the Trade Ally contractor files an Increase Load request (plus Replace Elec Panel for a panel upgrade) with the REV number as the project name, the meter number, square footage, EV load in kW, site photos and the supporting documents. 3) Rebate Plus claim, after installation: the contractor submits the itemized invoice billed to PG&E and signed by the customer, installation photos, charger evidence and the permit. PG&E pays the rebate to the Trade Ally contractor.
